Something strange has happened in recent months. Thousands of women across Italy have searched online for the elegant, handcrafted Mayfair bag, the kind that doesn't go unnoticed.

They found it, they paid for it, but when the package arrived home, for many the surprise was bitter: a rigid bag, with a chemical smell, completely different from the photos.

How is this possible? We decided to get to the bottom of it. And what we discovered is simpler, and more serious, than we thought.

The document that changes everything

Every original design in Europe can be registered in an official and public register: EUIPO. This is where companies register the designs they create to protect them from copying.

 

We searched for the Mayfair bag and found it. The design has been registered since 2024 under the name of a single person: Cristian Ibba, founder of Voemièn. This is black and white, verifiable by anyone in thirty seconds.

 

It means only one thing: anyone else selling that identical bag is committing counterfeiting.

A true Mayfair Voemièn is made with hammered calfskin, purchased from one of the best Italian tanneries.

 

It costs approximately €70 per meter, and a bag requires over a meter: just for the leather, we're talking €84.

 

To this, add the raffia, genuine hand-woven Viennese raffia, €70 per meter, incomparable to the cheap Chinese plastic costing a few euros per meter used by copies.

 

Add accessories, interiors, artisanal labor, shipping, packaging, fixed costs, marketing. 

And 60% taxes, because we are in Italy. And they sell it for €87.50? The entire bag, finished, shipped. At that price, not even the real materials are covered.

 

Either they're giving money away, or what arrives at your home is not made with the same materials. 

 

Ours costs more because it is truly made with Italian materials, in Italy, and is truly worth what you pay. Something doesn't add up.

We had one of these copies examined by a craftswoman with thirty years of experience in luxury bag production. Her verdict, upon touching it, was immediate:
